Secret Origins
Many moons ago, deep in 19th-century Mobile, Alabama, a secret society was born. It started with stolen cowbells, and rakes and from that chaos the Cowbellion de Rakin Society emerged. About twenty years later, a handful of its members broke off to form the Mistick Krewe of Comus.
Comus brought magick and mystery to New Orleans through elaborate tableaux cars (what we now call floats) and lavish masked balls. That tradition gave rise to a whole system of self-funded krewes – social clubs that plan, fund and lead the parades and balls that define Mardi Gras. Each krewe crowns its own royalty to reign over the revelry.
Purple and gold for royalty, naturally. And no celebration is complete without a little green. Need help picking? Click to take our quiz.
The Golden Standard
Krewe de Or
Historically, gold represents power. Bliss is turning that power into confidence. The Krewe de Or are the Ringleaders… bold, social, magnetic, the ones who lead the party without even trying. If you’re Krewe de Or, you’re at the center of every rooftop, every wild night, every unforgettable moment at the Mardi Gras Extravaganza.
In Green We Trust
Krewe de Coeur
Green has long stood for faith – through a Bliss lens, that becomes trust. Named for the heart, Krewe de Coeur are the Devotees. Connected, community-minded, relationship-first. This Krewe lives for the shared moments: themed parties, late-night conversations, dancing, play and the full warmth of the Bliss community.
Purple Is Your Permission Slip
Krewe de Liberté
Purple’s roots are in justice – and through justice comes liberation. Krewe de Liberté are the Liberators. Adventurous. Expressive. Spontaneous. Completely, unapologetically themselves. During the Mardi Gras Extravaganza Hotel Takeover, this Krewe follows the night wherever it leads.
